Shawna: You actually slopped hogs?
Aaron: We sure did. (To Becky) When your dad and I were around your age our parents took us to the jungles of New Guinea. We lived there five years!
Marian: (Sarcasm) Sounds heavenly.
Josh: It was! Aaron and I had a great time! We got to help build our house -- and it's still standing! In our free time we swam in the river, played stickball. . .with cannibals--
Aaron: Yeah, we used someone's head as a ball and their bones to knock it around with.
Shawna: (Shocked) Really?
Becky: You did not!
Josh: He's joking. It was a ball made out of twine from trees -- and, actually, they were former cannibals. Your grandparents led many of them to Christ.
Shawna: Really?
Aaron: If our family hadn't sacrificed to evangelize those primitive people, they'd never have met Jesus!
Becky: (Looks stricken) I'm way too young to evangelize! That's for older people.
Aaron: Oh really? I happen to know that young people can be just as responsible before God as old geezers like us. As a matter of fact there's a story in the Bible about a young person who met Jesus and was converted. He may have been young, but he was just as ready and responsible for inconvenience and hardship as someone of twenty -- or seventy!
Marian: (Thinking out loud) Jesus never offered amusement and entertainment for his disciples, did he? My have things changed since then! Churches today have to offer both just to get people to come!
Becky: (Changing the subject) At my school Christians aren't very popular. Everyone thinks they're geeks. I hate people thinking I'm a geek!
Marian: So you want to be popular, huh? Wanting to be popular cost me plenty! When I went away to college my parents couldn't afford to have me stay in the dorm, so I stayed in a boarding house and worked for my keep. I was the only Christian in the house. It was tough. No one wanted to pray at the table, no one wanted to go to church -- and no one read the Bible! I wanted to be well liked, so I didn't make a stand for Jesus. Never witnessed to the other boarders. (Breathes a sigh) Eventually I became worldly, just like them.
Josh: I didn't know that?
Marian: You don't know everything about my life, Joshua. For a long, long time, being accepted meant more to me than Christ meant to me. (Sighs) I suppose I was ashamed of Jesus.
Shawna: I'm never going to be ashamed of Jesus.
Becky: Yeah, well , wait 'til you're my age, then we'll see how you feel.
Marian: (Looks at her watch) I hate to cut this short, but dinner's ready! (She pulls Becky from the chair) C'mon, Beck! (Nudges her toward the kitchen) I made a cream cheese pie for dessert. It's your favorite, isn't it? (Becky finally gives in , cracks a smile and nods)
Shawna: It's my favorite too! Can we both have a really big slice, Mommy?
Everyone exits the stage at the same time... Lights dim.
